111 Care Packages for Community in Whalley, BC

December 22, 2019

Sunday, December 22, 2019, the team from Empowering Hands Global Minds distributed care packages to the many forgotten people on the streets – people of all ages and ethnicity.

Our goal was to provide care packages that helped all recipients feel special and remembered at this time of year.

Hand packed in a reusable cloth bag, we included items to keep the homeless warm, to feed them with a variety of snacks and fresh baked cookies, and to provide personal and oral hygiene items for each individual.

111 care packages were distributed on December 22, 2019.

21 volunteers helped to prepare and distribute the packages.

Our team included children and adults who wrote Christmas cards with inspirational messages that recognized the value of all.

The cost of this initiative was $1500 which included $1000 worth of donated goods.  The benefit to the community was supporting homeless and vulnerable people and bringing some joy to their lives.

Learning in a Classroom

May 8, 2019 By Ronita Leave a Comment

In Canada, we are blessed with a commitment to education and to supporting education through government policies (such as taxation).  While we often complain about the high cost of taxes, imagine if we had to raise our children in places or countries where there was no, or limited, access to education and the resources (such as schools, classrooms, libraries, teachers, technology, and more) necessary to teach, and to learn.

Our organization, Empowering Hands Helping Global Minds, is dedicated to helping on a local and global level.  We believe it is important to support and to give back to society and to communities and families around the world.  We cannot help everyone. But we can work to improve access to education one classroom at a time.

Learning in a ‘Real’ Classroom

Our 2019 fundraising project is for the Dilkusha School for Girls in Fiji.  We are working hard to raise funds to build a new classroom for this school.

You can see by the image of one of the existing classrooms at Dilkusha, that the school and the students are delighted to work creatively with what they have.  We’d like to help by supporting their efforts to educate and develop.

To contribute by donating to the society, or by participating in our fundraising activities, please contact us – we’d love to hear from you – and we’d love to share our passion for this project.
